Dear Editor,
As someone whose business and family, many decades ago, semi-adopted a very troubled Vietnamese boat-boy (taking him into our home to stay at times) and who in very recent decades has seen, heard, and smelled (yes, particularly in Milano, coupled with the violence seen, it smelled like hell!) firsthand the horrors, violence and cultural upheaval wrought upon the UK, Continental Europe, Scandinavia, and some parts of the US by unfettered, swarms of illegal immigration, I say ‘thank you’ to Karen Andrews, former Minister for Home Affairs; former PM Scott Morrison; and former Home Affairs Minister Peter Sutton for their dutiful, lawful and morally correct attempts to deport the Biloela Tamil family (the parents and their misguided supporters having tried just about every trick/ruse in the book to thwart Australia’s laws)!
Deportation is a deterrent against false hopes, because turning back the boats saves lives (including innocent children’s) lost at sea in nefarious people-smugglers’ rickety boats! And now, the people-smugglers will say to emboldened would-be illegal immigrants, “It’s worth the risk, because once you get on shore in Australia…just look at how the Biloela illegals beat the system; so you, too, will get to stay in Australia!”
