(Apr. 25, 2022) – 12:45 p.m. EDT – Multiple sources are reporting Monday that multi-billionaire Elon Musk is set to acquire the social-media platform Twitter later in the day.

At 12:05 p.m. EDT, Reuters reported that, “Twitter set to accept Musk’s $43 billion offer” issued on April 14.

For the last several weeks, Musk, said to be the wealthiest person in the world, tweeted his interest in acquiring the company, removing censorship and making it a privately-held company.

Twitter’s Board of Directors initially appeared unwilling to accept Musk’s offer, but a tweet Musk released seven minutes after Reuters’s report was published suggested that a change in ownership of the company could be imminent.

Following the Reuters report, The New York Times wrote that “Twitter is nearing a deal to sell itself to Elon Musk, two people with knowledge of the situation said, a move that would unite the world’s richest man with the influential social networking service. An agreement could be announced as soon as Monday, the people told The Times’s Lauren Hirsch, Mike Isaac and Katie Conger.”

According to journalist Amichai Stein at approximately 12:46 p.m. EDT, a sales agreement has been reached between Musk and Twitter.

Within moments, the trend “Reinstate Trump” appeared, with some speculating Musk would lift Twitter’s lifetime ban on 45th President Donald J. Trump’s account.
