Of Telescopes, Sunspots and Sinking Ships

(Oct. 14, 2021) — Good…, flaming…, grief.  We now have for our viewing “pleasure” a brief video of Kamala Devi Harris – masquerading as a legitimate Vice President of the United States – as she urges some pre-teens to “get curious” about space and learn how to build and use a telescope.  This as part of the observation of the U.N.-inspired “World Space Week” taking place each October.  Even more bizarre is the fact that Harris does this as the Chair of the National Space Council.

Seriously?

Apart from the “curious” and ironic selection of a Canadian company named “Sinking Ship Entertainment Corporate” to produce the video in apparent partnership with “YouTube Entertainment Studios, Inc.,” the production only underscores the clueless nature of the Goofball Regime and its pseudo-vice president.

Among the more obvious examples of clueless hypocrisy in the video is the toggling back and forth between Harris and the kids wearing masks… then not wearing masks…, then wearing masks again…, then back to not wearing masks, and throughout, ignoring the vaunted CDC “social distancing” edicts.  Did they not get the Fauci memo…?  Oh, wait, that guy has flip-flopped on masks more times than the Goofball-in-Chief has publicly gaffed, so ignoring him can be forgiven.

Then of course is the “extemporaneous” question from “Derek,” a child actor – yes, Virginia, the “kids” were actors, as one of them confirmed that his “agent” called him after his “audition” and told him he had “booked it” – who asked Harris: “What was the best advice your parents gave to you that you could share with us today?”  That question was “extemporaneous” in the same sense that the public’s now viral chant of “Let’s Go Brandon!” is complimentary of the Goof at 1600.

Not missing a beat – and apparently not needing a teleprompter as some other government officials do – Harris responded: “Never let anybody tell you who you are.  You tell them who you are.”  Ah…, yes: tell people you are a natural born citizen eligible to the presidency simply because you were born in California… right.  If ignorance is bliss, Harris must be euphoric.

But I digress.

Returning to the video, the kids go on a “scavenger hunt” at the U.S. Naval Observatory and “find” the necessary components to assemble their own “telescope.”  A military guide at the observatory informs them that “time” is important.  In explaining how we measure time, he notes (at the 5:52 mark) that a sundial works based on “the sun going around the Earth.”  This astronomical misinformation would have come as a surprise to Galileo and Copernicus as well as to most current astronomers…, even those who are Democrats.

On a more serious note, the video also depicts the kids and Harris peering through the eyepiece of the large refractor telescope at the Naval Observatory during daytime hours.  The video injects (at the 7:15 mark) images of the sun and adding the narrative comment that they will see “a little black dot on the sun.  That’s a sunspot.”

Ummmm…. apart from the fact that the image in the video looks more like a transit of the sun by the planet Mercury than it does a sunspot, the video image is offered without a warning: amateur astronomers – particularly kids, the prime targets of the video – who make their own telescopes should not look for sunspots through those devices…, unless they want to risk severe retina damage and blindness.  Memo to Harris: will kids going to hospitals with retina burns after making one of your recommended telescopes be denied aid unless they are C-19 vaccinated and can prove it?

At the end of the day, perhaps it is neither curious nor ironic that the video emanates from an outfit called “Sinking Ship Entertainment.”  The problem, of course, is that while it may be entertaining to watch the Goofball Regime and its apparatchiks sinking into their own sea of stupidity, the fact that they are dragging the Republic down with them is not at all entertaining.  Instead, it is catastrophic.

No wonder the colloquial “Brandon” chants get louder and more pervasive as time goes by.

It is one thing to see a “Let’s Go Brandon!” bumper sticker on a Chevy Silverado or a Ford 150…, it is another thing to see one on a Volvo or a Prius. This is how bipartisan grassroots movements start….
