(May 26, 2020) — Introduction

The most common questions people ask in relation to covers for cars is, do they really need one? What could possibly go wrong if they do not have one, and if they really need to buy one, which is the best car cover that will suit their specific needs?

Every single day your car is exposed to all kinds of elements from the rain that might seep into parts and wreak havoc on both the interior and exterior of the car, to extreme sunlight whose UV rays may cause your paint to chip. Your car to pets and other animals is just another toy standing in their way, and if left unchecked they will not hesitate to attack it with their claws, teeth and all that they have – all these can contribute to damage to your car. If you live in a region that snows, snow coming into contact with your car can and will set off chain reactions that may ultimately result to rust, chipping and mechanical failures.

Damage to your vehicle can be caused by other people who inadvertently bump into it as they go about their businesses. Scratches on the body of your car can be very frustrating, but an even more frustrating occurrence is bird droppings on your hood, windscreen and body of your car. Getting them off isn’t the most pleasant of work, and can also result in micro-scratches on your car’s body. So, if it was ever a question of whether you need a car cover, yes, you do. But what exactly should you consider when buying covers for cars?

What’s the condition of the car?

Most people see the best car covers for their cars when they are in pristine condition, or when the cars are relatively new or recently upgraded. If your car has seen better days and already has marks and dents to show the same, there is really no point in getting a car cover because what will you be protecting it from? If you have vintage cars, you have all the more reason to purchase the best covers to keep them safe.

Where do you park your car?

Often cars that are parked outside take the most beating from the elements – from rain to sunlight, to snow, dust, wind and the like. Speaking of sunlight and UV damage, it is not the exterior that suffers most from exposure to the sun, rather it is the interior. Cars have a paint coating that protects the paint from the sun’s direct rays. However, continued exposure to the sun can cause the seats, dashboards and other areas to fade, which can be very unsightly. This is where the covers for cars come in.

This is not to say that you do not need a car cover if you park your car in a garage or indoor parking bay. Most garages act as storage for other items – from old household items to gardening tools, all of which can cause considerable damage to the car when they are dragged about the garage. If there are multiple cars in your garage, every once in a while, the other car may scratch or cause dents on your car when the doors are opened. For this reason, you might just need a car cover inside just as you would outside.

Which are the best car covers for your car?

Frequent purchase of car covers and using them incorrectly can cause damage to your car, and it is the main reason why people doubt the efficiency of car covers. Before using a cover, ensure that the vehicle itself is clean and does not have a layer of dust, mud or debris. Otherwise, when the car cover is moved it will cause abrasions on the surface of the car.

Also make sure the cover fits your vehicle well, so it is not whipped around by the wind causing moisture and dust to get in. You can seek a custom fit so that it suits your car even better. Those are waterproof car covers to prevent moisture and other elements from getting in but are also breathable enough to let any moisture that builds up underneath it to escape.
