(Dec. 23, 2019) — Bridgeport, CT – Today, Mayor Ganim joined Chief Perez and Assistant Chief Rebeca Garcia to acknowledge Bridgeport Police Officer Carlos Carmo Jr. who stopped an SUV from rolling downhill on Boston Avenue during school dismissal.

“As I was running after the SUV… I was praying to please stop and it was a huge sense of relief when I was able to get the car to come to a stop,” stated Officer Carmo.

Mayor Ganim commended Officer Carmo and stated, “It was spur of the moment, you put your own life at risk, and you saved the people that were in the vehicle, people the vehicle was headed towards. On behalf of a grateful City, I want to say thank you very much.”

Mayor Ganim and Bridgeport City Council will present a proclamation and citation to Officer Carmo on January 6th, 2020; for his bravery, selflessness, and quick thinking. He is an inspiration to the Police Department and the City of Bridgeport.
