(Dec. 10, 2019) — Once a new parent welcomes their little bundle of joy, an unknown urge immediately arises. The fact that you need to take meticulous care of that little creature, pay close attention to their safety and protect him or her from the outside world makes your parenting job even more daunting. Amongst many other things that a parent is responsible for, childproofing your home is probably one of the most vital things. Children are rather resilient, but by doing your homework and making your home childproof you will keep them safe from incidents. And here is how to do just that.

Use small safety gadgets

To prevent any kind of head injuries or some household objects or furniture falling onto your child, you can use some nifty and useful gadgets. Crawling babies and toddlers are extremely curious and they will go, crawl, and get under almost anything and anywhere they can. Use safety gates to keep your baby from opening drawers or going to a room it is not supposed to. Attach cushioned corner-and-edge protectors to dining and coffee tables. To prevent them from slipping, falling and hitting themselves on small living-room rugs, put non-slip pads under the rugs and carpets. Use plug protectors for all electrical plugs around your home, and place furniture wall-straps to prevent the item from falling accidentally on your child.

Keep things out of reach

Toddlers love to play-pretend; however, unless you have found quality and safe play-pretend toys at Funtastic Toy, then you must get other household objects out of your toddler’s reach. Children have a vivid imagination, and they even pick out sharp car keys to play with and end up cutting themselves. Keep scissors, keys, staplers and other sharp objects locked in a drawer. Keep candles, matches, glass photo frames, or any other heavy and bulky objects out of their sight. No matter how silly their intention is, whether they are not very movable if their motor-sensory skills are underdeveloped, kids will try to reach for those intriguing items and may end up injuring themselves.

Prevent suffocation at all causes

Just as children get attracted to mundane household objects, they absolutely adore putting them (actually everything) in their mouths. You must be specifically cautious with small choking hazards that your baby can swallow, since they may lead to suffocation. Clear out any round, cylindrical, or oval toys or items smaller than 1 inch which can be easily swallowed. Read the labels of small toys that can lead to fatal choking, and ensure that you don’t have any other petite objects lying around your house like batteries, earrings, water bottle lids, etc.

Clear out the clutter, prevent burns and poisoning

Never scatter clothes around rooms since the child might get entangled, accidentally slip and fall on the head. Throw out the garbage at all times; never leave open containers to prevent your toddler from eating or sipping something rotten or bad. A child can easily get poisoned by common household medicine; therefore, remove potential chemicals and medicine and put a child-latch on the doors. Keep your home de-cluttered. Put glass tables away since they are utterly unsafe. To avoid potential burns keep your child away from fire and hot surfaces. Even hot drinks and a warm stove can cause scalds.

Have a watchful eye over them

Children are always on the move, and some unplanned mishaps may occur. Once they get to know the world around them, know what to touch and what not to touch, you must be by their side at all times. Put hazardous things out of their reach, obey the above-mentioned tips, but still make sure that you watch their every move.

Make a list of emergency numbers in your telephone, keep a first-aid kit at your home, and carefully follow the above-mentioned safety features.
