“A FUN RIDE”

by Contributor

(Sep. 22, 2019) — Nintendo WII is one of the most emulated consoles out there. Sure, it had its own bad moments – the absence of gamepad support and low-graphics quality are turn-off factors for some gamers. Still, it’s the end feel that counts – and the console delivered plenty of that.

1. Emuparadise

This is one of the oldest, biggest, and arguably the strongest contender for the title of the best emulation library. Started back in 2006, the library not only managed to create an almost cult following but also, to maintain this kind of influence for more than 10 years.

2. KillerROMs

This platform is many gamers’ favorite for its efficient organizations. All ROMs are neatly laid out on the main page along with regularly updated statistics, genres, and scores. Game files have a detailed description and screenshots.

We love clear filters of WII ROMS: download files in alphabetical order or sort them by genres or years of release, or even file sizes. If you are looking for the game that has only been released in a specific county – for WII, as for most Nintendo consoles, this is usually Japan – just select a country. The server response time is one of the fastest you could even see in the ROMs library – and the files themselves work quickly, too.

3. Romulation

Nintendo WII is the most popular console in this catalog. You could even say that the service is built with WI in mind – not that it doesn’t feature ice collections for other consoles, too. The clean interface and reliable virus scan earns this platform a solid second spot in our top.

4. NitroBlog

This library usually passes by mainstream tops – and that’s absolutely underserved. In fact, NicoBlog is one of the hidden gems of emulation platforms. The creators of the platform handpick rare titles – some of these have been only exclusively released in Japan.

The website also has a great forum and blog – an amazing place to chill for die-hard emulation fans. The only downside of this library is a relatively small selection of games – a full-on quality-over-quantity approach.

5. Vimm

This website sends users a fresh collection of ROs each month as long as they are subscribed to their newsletters. The website also supports the search mode that works pretty much like in any regular collection.

The only drawback of the website is that all ROMs are packed in 7Z archives which is an issue if you don’t have an appropriate file manager.

6. The Old Computer

If you were looking for ROMs specifically for Dolphin emulator – and it’s one of the most popular tools on the market – here is your top destination. The library features more than 500 00 ROMs from 150 creators. It’s the biggest WII collection that you could possibly find.

To access all these games, you need to register an account – otherwise, downloads will be unavailable. The downloads are free but limited – for the full access, acquire a subscription.

How to determine if the ROM source is legal?

Among all console companies, Nintendo has the strictest copyright policy. Any kind of emulation is considered to be the violation of rights and the  company doesn’t shy away from suing those who break these requirements.

Luckily, there haven’t been instances of a company pursuing individual ROM users  – although it’s best to avoid getting noticed by the official team. Luckily, some Nintendo libraries take the legal questions very seriously and do their best to keep their practices as compatible with legal requirements as possible.

The first way to tell if the company gets ROMs legally is by taking a look at the download conditions. Any kind of library that requests payments for its ROMs is violating the laws – you can’t charge for distributing copyrighted material.

The second way is to analyze the website carefully. Trustworthy libraries publish disclaimers and copyright updates. If the website is entirely silent on the matter of legitimacy of its content, that’s how you recognize the usage of shady practices.

Conclusions

If you want to keep your online reputation clean, it’s best to stick to the five platforms that we reviewed on this list. All of these have been proven to use legal patching methods. Also, there have been no security concerns – hence, no danger of unexpected malware.

WII emulation is a fun ride, and it’s even better if you do it safely. Take your time to explore the options and find your favorite ROMs. At the end of the day, it’s absolutely worth it.

Since I am part computer geek, this got my attention. However, it was not entirely clear what the author was talking about. If a paragraph or two could have been devoted to defining ROM, and putting “consoles” and “emulation platforms” in context, that would have made the article even better.
