“THE CLOSEST EVER TO THIS COUNTRY HAVING A COUP”
by Sharon Rondeau
High-ranking former officials of the U.S. intelligence community, particularly in the DOJ, FBI and CIA, are believed to be under close scrutiny by Attorney General William Barr and the DOJ’s inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, for their possible involvement in attempting to disrupt the Trump campaign and presidency following the 2016 election.
On October 21, 2016, the first of four FISA warrants was applied for on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, signed by then-FBI Director James Comey and “supported” by an unverified “dossier” claiming that Page was “an agent of a foreign power” who needed to be monitored. In sworn statements, Comey and others claimed the dossier’s contents were verified with the due diligence expected of the FBI.
Of the revelations made public to date, McCarthy said, “We had to pull this information out. There were people at the highest levels of government that were causing this problem…We came the closest ever to this country having a coup, and now we need accountability.”
“Are we going to see accountability, though, really?” Bartiromo asked, as she has many times of guests over the last 2+ years as Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was ongoing. In March, Mueller’s report stated that the probe found insufficient evidence of “collusion” between the campaign and the Russians.
Bartiromo specifically asked McCarthy about former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, whose legal team has reportedly attempted to negotiate with the DOJ to convince officials to abandon their intent to seek an imminent grand-jury indictment.
Early last year, Horowitz stated in a report that McCabe “lacked candor” in interviews with his office and the FBI about a media leak concerning an investigation into the Clinton Foundation. Horowitz then referred McCabe for investigation to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, which recommended to the DOJ to charging McCabe.
In regard to McCabe, McCarthy responded, “We will see an indictment.”
“A lot of people point to the CIA being one of the masterminds — John Brennan — are we going to see John Brennan come back and answer some questions?” Bartiromo asked.
“Anyone that has had any association with trying to create this coup should be held accountable,” McCarthy responded. “I just had a conversation with [Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman] Lindsey Graham; I know he’ll bring individuals back into his committee, and I know we will not stop, and I give all trust within this Attorney General Barr to do what is right…”
McCarthy added that he believes Comey ultimately will not “get off.”
Later on the program, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said, “You will see accountability” after Bartiromo invoked Comey’s name.
