Twitter Unblocks “Laura Loomer,” but Account Remains “Restricted”

by Sharon Rondeau

(Nov. 23, 2018) — On Wednesday followers of controversial citizen journalist Laura Loomer tweeted that she was permanently banned from the social-media platform.

Loomer confirmed the reports in a YouTube video that day in which she said censorship has “gone too far” and that she would sue Twitter.

At the same time, Loomer was reportedly banned for 30 days from Facebook.

Earlier this year, hearings took place on Capitol Hill based on allegations made by “conservative” commentators and private citizens who say they were unfairly censored because of their political views.

In August, Infowars owner and radio host Alex Jones‘s pages were simultaneously removed by Facebook, Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

In early September, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg testified  to lawmakers about site security and censorship concerns along with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, with Google choosing not to send a representative.  Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared at an earlier hearing in April.

Unconfirmed reports say that Loomer’s criticism of congresswoman-elect Ilhan Omar of Minnesota for her reported support of the “BDS” (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement against Israel was the catalyst for Twitter’s decision to ban Loomer.

Loomer is Jewish.

On Friday evening, a number of Twitter users announced that Loomer’s account was restored.

Upon seeking out her profile, this writer noted that it is “restricted” as of press time.

When a user seeks to bypass the “restriction,” Loomer’s full profile is revealed, if in fact it is hers:

It remains unclear why Twitter relented in its ban of the 25-year-old Trump supporter, and Loomer did not provide any clues.  Her profile statement now appears as “Twitter will not silence me. I am back.”

At approximately 4:00 p.m. EST, Loomer or someone impersonating her referred to the unlocked account as a “backup” and said she was “overwhelmed” by her followers’ support.  Prior to her original Twitter account being frozen, Loomer reportedly had more than a quarter-million followers.

Update, November 24, 2018:  Jim Hoft of The Gateway Pundit reported that “Laura Loomer tells me this is a fake account.”

A person claiming to be Laura Loomer sent to me this information. Apparently, Laura Loomer’s back-up second account on Twitter is: @LauraLoomers. You can investigate this easily. Yes @RealLauraLoomer is a fake account.
