TO COMMENCE IN THE FALL

by Sharon Rondeau

(Jun. 26, 2018) — WTNH-New Haven reported Tuesday evening that the North Haven, CT schools will have armed school resource officers beginning this fall.

Last month the Record-Journal reported that a proposal to place SROs in all of the town’s six schools was under consideration.  The town has employed an SRO who typically spends most of his time at the high school and is provided by the North Haven Police Department.

North Haven First Selectman Michael Freda fully supported the decision arrived at on Tuesday and said that the vote among town officials was “unanimous.”

In small New England towns, the first selectman is the equivalent of a mayor.

The proposal was first made in 2013 following the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and renewed after the February 14 slaughter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.
