NWCX Second Source: Female Correction Officer Terrorizes Inmates

by Sharon Rondeau

(Jun. 2, 2018) — A communication received on Saturday reiterated the claim of an initial source who told us that a female correction officer at the Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX) in Tiptonville, TN is literally terrorizing inmates as well as following through on those threats.

We are not publishing the communications we are receiving about the officer so as to protect any identifying information about the sources, as they fear for their physical safety.

The second source reported that the correction officer is “a very dangerous person who probably should not be responsible or in control of other people.”  The source indicated that “everybody knows” that the officer “had Inmate XXXXXX beat-up because they had a disagreement.”

He further wrote, “Everybody know…that she is a dirty officer.  Everybody knows that she even bragged about the ‘new money’ or ‘extra money’ that she is making from her ‘extra activities’ at work because she tells us that she have even had a brand new swimming pool installed at her place. Everybody knows that she gives the green light for inmates to be beat by gang members such as inmate XXXXX.”

According to both sources, one of the officer’s methods is to see that a “shakedown” of an inmate’s cell is carried out by other correction officers. The second source stated that this form of harassment is done “over and over again.”

The source said that the officer’s retaliatory tactics are not restricted to inmates.  “Everybody knows that an inmate aint able to disagree with her because of her vicious retaliation against the inmate. Everybody knows that she will lie to officers and threatens officers if they don’t do what she wants them to do when she wants an inmate harassed.”

Changing course slightly, the communication reads, “What nobody knows is how Officer XXXXX is able to do all of this stuff without any consequences.  Her fellow officers know that she do these things.  Staff, Administrators, Internal Affairs all know that she do these things but nobody does anything about it.  Now Officer XXXXX has begun to bully inmates more.  Yesterday I overheard her and a Sgt. talking about how they had taken an inmate’s food and hygiene soap and deodorant…And take his stuff they did.”

The source said that the female officer promised to continue to confiscate the same inmate’s commissary purchases “every chance she get.”

The communication concludes with “Everybody knows that nobody:  officers, staff, or administrators or internal affairs does anything about the stuff that XXXXX does.  When she starts to increase the amount of people she picks on and bully then she has really gotten out of control.”

The source also wrote that the officer was heard saying that “if she found out or saw that anybody got any mail from you or your organization that they would have her and her guys to deal with.”

This article is another reason the public needs to demand that body cameras with audio be required to be worn by corrections officers and open to public review.
Until the public is allowed to view what goes on inside these mini-kingdoms of the corrections industry individuals will continue to be abused.
It’s time these acts of darkness be brought to light. Tax dollars go to support these facilities; the public has a right to access not only the reported financial records of these places, but also the job performance of each and every individual on payroll.
It’s time to hold these people accountable and let them know they are not above the law they swore to uphold.
