SHOOTER ATTACKED REPUBLICANS AT EARLY-MORNING BASEBALL PRACTICE

by Sharon Rondeau

(Jun. 14, 2017) — During remarks from the White House beginning at approximately 11:38 a.m. EDT, President Donald Trump announced that the shooter at an Alexandria, VA baseball field of congressmen, staffers and Capitol Police has died of injuries sustained from the Capitol Police response.

The shooting took place at Eugene Simpson Park just after 7:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday.

The practice was in preparation for a charity baseball game scheduled for Thursday.

James T. Hodgkinson has been identified as the shooter, and reports that his motivation for carrying out the crime was political have surfaced.

In his statement, Trump thanked all first-responders and extended best wishes to all affected, including those wounded from the volley of shots Hodgkinson was said to have fired.

Several congressmen who were at the practice have provided interviews to the press, with Rep. Chuck Fleischmann telling Fox News’s Jon Scott that he heard “40 or 50 shots” from Hodkinson’s firearm.

The Capitol Police at the park as part of Rep. Steve Scalise’s security detail have been widely praised for “saving lives.”
