“YOU CAN’T TRUST ANYBODY THESE DAYS”

(May 30, 3017) — This conversation takes place on the 02 deck of a US Navy destroyer operating in the Med. The sun just set; it’s 78 degrees and the ship is cruising East at 12 knots.
“Another day, another dollar.”
“You’ve got to figure taxes. Besides, that ‘dollar’ you just earned was taxed even before you saw it, and the government will swoop down and take even more while you spend it.”
“Don’t forget the State.”
“And the county. Do you know that in Daytona Beach they even have a ‘Tourist Motel Excise Tax?’”
“That even made ‘Stars and Stripes,’ didn’t it?”
“If it didn’t, it should’ve.”
“Where we going, Stanton?”
“You’re not going to believe it but the orders are for Turkey – Istanbul — but the Captain’s not too keen on the idea.”
“Why’s that? I’ve never been to Turkey.”
“None of us have. My God, where you been? You know what happened to the last ship that pulled in there? Some of the sailors could’ve been killed, that’s what, just for being American sailors in uniform. How does that grab you?”
“But I thought Turkey was a part of NATO.”
“It is, but they’re not.”
“Now what the heck Is that supposed to mean?”
“They’re Muslims, get it? You can’t trust them. They say one thing but mean something else. They even have some sort of name for telling lies and giving themselves a pat-on-the-back at the same time.”
“Why, that’s crazy.”
“That’s what I’m trying to tell you.”
“Then we’re selling the Arabs all kinds of weapons so, what, they can kill other Arabs; is that it?”
“You got it. Remember that war when Iraq and Iran were fighting it out? Why, every arms manufacturer in the world got in on that deal, and it was a good deal for the whole world: Muslims killing Muslims. The whole world is at peace when Arab Middle Eastern countries go at one another.”
“That’s true, isn’t it? But this ‘refugee’ stampede isn’t such a good thing, is it?”
“No, it’s not. I think the whole thing’s a charade; a feint; a colossal deception: it’s an excuse to transport whole Islamic Divisions from the Middle East to other countries of the world. Why, just look around you: Canada is going over; England, Germany and Sweden already have, and France isn’t far behind and every other country seems to be following the path of total destruction.”
“But not Poland or Japan.”
“I take back all of my Polish jokes.”
“No more laughing about ‘Made in Japan,’ is there?”
“Nowadays it doesn’t matter where they say something is made. Why, it could be made in a sweatshop ‘Anywhere, World.’ Just because it says ‘MADE IN INDIA’ may not be the truth. Heck, it could’ve been made by Human Trafficking Slavers in a warehouse in a suburb of Los Angeles or Boston. We’ve reached the point where you can’t trust anybody these days.”
“General Quarters drill at 0948 tomorrow, so be at your stations.”
“We must be setting all kinds of records; General Quarters manned and ready in 7.4 seconds. Heck, it takes longer than that to dog a hatch.”
“The Captain got wise to that, which is why he’s going to spring a ‘Surprise General Quarters Drill’ as soon as we stand down from the first, so don’t leave your stations.”
“That’ll be great: two world records in less than, what, ten minutes?”
“I suppose so. Look, I’m just doing you guys a favor so you’re not like, you know, caught unawares.”
“Oh, no, don’t get us wrong. We like this info, we really do. And we like to set records while we’re at it. What’s for chow tomorrow?”
“Same as today.”
“You know what? There’s two things you can count on in the Navy: lousy coffee and ‘same-old, same-old.’
