“I AM SUPPORTING DONALD TRUMP BECAUSE HE IS A LEADER”

(Jul. 21, 2016) — Directly following Jerry Falwell, Jr., Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio spoke at the RNC for approximately five minutes, stressing that in his view, the United States’ immigration policy favors foreigners over its own citizens.
He said he endorsed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump “because he is a leader” who will tackle the problem of illegal aliens head-on.
Arpaio terms himself “America’s toughest sheriff” and has been the defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by a number of Hispanics in December 2007 for racial profiling. He is seeking a seventh term as sheriff in November.
Arpaio is the only elected sheriff who launched an investigation into the long-form birth certificate image posted on the White House website in April 2011 purported to be Obama’s. In March 2012, Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse found the image, as well as Obama’s purported Selective Service registration form, to be fraudulent.
Early in 2011, Trump had brought the issue of Obama’s missing long-form birth certificate to public consciousness as he decided whether or not to run for president for 2012. He ultimately decided not to become a candidate.
