Stop the Secrecy!

On June 9^th at 11:00 am SCOPE will be holding a press conference in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in Albany, NY. We will be announcing the filing of hundreds of Freedom Of Information Law (FOIL) requests to the New York State Police for information on the Integrated SAFE Act Reporting System (ISARS).

Patient reports through ISARS originate from medical providers under NY Mental Hygiene Law §9.46, one of the new and possibly most insidious provisions of the “SAFE Act.”  To date, an estimated 75,000 people have been reported to the State by their medical providers, but less than 1% of those people have been notified of the report. Everyone else is in the dark.

Increasingly we are receiving new reports of cases involving false or inaccurate reports to the ISARS, leading to gun confiscations! It is a system in which the state asserts you have no right of due process, you are entitled to no hearing, and you need not even be criminally charged to lose your rights and your property! To bring public attention to the secret reporting system, we are asking concerned citizens to join us in the LCA Press Room 130 in the LOB. If you haven’t already filled out your FOIL request, we will have them available. We anticipate hundreds, if not thousands of people to submit FOILs during the Stop the Secrecy campaign.

After the press conference we encourage all to visit their legislators and give them the message; the SAFE Act is an UN-Constitutional infringement on the Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights of the Law-Abiding citizens of New York State. We will not rest until it is Repealed or Struck Down!

Try to arrive early: At 11am: Bring YOUR FOIL Request or fill one out there – to Room 130 LOB Press Room. [Is YOUR name on the secret database? Are people – you don’t know who – using YOUR medical records?]

Form a BIG crowd for the SCOPE Press Conference. [go with the flow as it happens]

Part 2 Civic Action:

FULL Repeal of the Safe Act Civic Action:

On Tuesday June 9^th – while Albany is in session – beginning directly after the SCOPE News Conference – WE march through the halls of every floor of the LOB chanting, “STOP Violating OUR Rights – FULL Repeal of the Safe Act NOW.”

We gather in the halls on the LOB first floor concourse at 11:45am. We jam the security lines with thousands of US and go through security to the elevators and the stairway. In a sort-of random fashion WE march all the way up to the 9^th floor chanting all the way. We march back down and out of the building to the infamous lawn of the Capitol Park. Once we are all gather in the park, with no permit required, someone begins a chant that gets as loud as possible.
