“AGGRESSIVE” AND “BEHIND-THE-SCENES”
by Sharon Rondeau
@Schultz44 which journalists are you going to try to silence over the weekend? Or maybe you’ll plot to smear them?”
His tweet was directed to Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz, whose emails exchanged with DOJ press aide Tracy Schmaler showed that the two were discussing how to “control” investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson, who at the time worked for CBS News.
An email from Schmaler to Schultz indicated that Schmaler intended to speak with Attkisson’s editor and CBS veteran reporter Bob Schieffer, now host of “Face the Nation.”
Schmaler, a female, left the DOJ last year, according to The Huffington Post, which described her as “DOJ’s top flack throughout the congressional investigation into ATF’s Operation Fast and Furious as well as DOJ’s defense of the Affordable Care Act.”
HuffPo wrote a piece critical of the award-winning Attkisson, calling her reporting “shoddy” and biased while ignoring its own media bias in favor of progressives and the Obama regime.
On Friday morning, The Post & Email contacted CBS to ask if, in fact, Schieffer had been contacted by Schmaler or anyone within the DOJ with a request or demand that he make efforts to silence Attkisson, who had been reporting on Fast & Furious, which trafficked guns to Mexican criminals and resulted in the death of at least one American.
The Post & Email tweeted back to Judicial Watch and Schultz, “I reported on the docs you posted today re: Sharyl Attkisson. My website has been hacked and my phone tapped.”
A story from July in Politico stated that Schultz “is well-known for his aggressive, behind-the-scenes approach.”
Attkisson terminated her contract with CBS earlier this year and is now an independent journalist, often published at The Daily Signal.
Had it not been for constant hacking of The Post & Email’s website in 2010, 2011 and early 2012, the information it publishes would be free to the public and much more widely disseminated. The Post & Email is one of just a handful of news sites willing to report on the forgeries of Obama’s long-form birth certificate and Selective Service registration form.
In December 2011, The Post & Email had proof that its business phone was being monitored and contacted the FBI, with no response ever received.
