Wow. Another amazing week. We reached 40,000 people on Facebook, anther 10,000 + on YouTube, and a few more on Twitter. Daphne’s video is rounding out to around 200,000 views, and 20 more people got started taking back their towns. The government has also been busy redefining terrorism again, with some pretty astounding ideas this week, that we’ll cover later in this email.
First things first, Daphne “I’m Just a Mom” Lee’s resolution is up THIS TUESDAY. Please help us pressure the Clark County Commission to pass her Anti-NDAA resolution by taking 2 minutes to contact one of the people below:

New Resources – Googling the wrong search terms now considered threats to National Security
This week, a man filed suit against the Federal government for harassing over an auto-completed Google search. It appears the government has been harassing him as a possible terrorist when he searched “How do I build a radio controlled…” and Google autocompleted the text to “How do I build a radio controlled bomb” instead of “airplane.”
We’ve added “searching google” to the list of things that can make you a terrorist. Wow.

In a new case, the FBI is claiming that doing research on FBI investigations of animal rights activists causes “irreparable harm to national security.” If you need more proof that your city council, county commissioners, or any citizen in your town could be considered a terrorist, here you go. We’ve added submitting a FOIA to the list of things that could make you a terrorist:

New Resources – The 2012 NDAA Actually makes it HARDER to fight terrorism
The 2012 NDAA does devastating damage to our rights, so that should always be the main argument. It eviscerates the Bill of Rights, and repeats the same mistakes we made in the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII.
However, what if that argument doesn’t work?
Sometimes, you will run into a citizen/elected official who is so concerned about terrorism that they are willing to risk your rights to protect you. In this case, the 2012 NDAA is actually a great double-sided coin.
According to an Op-ed in the New York Times, we have prosecuted over 400 people for terrorism-related offenses in civilian court since 9-11…and only 6 in military court. The 2012 NDAA forces military court/detention for people suspected of terrorism.
That’s right, the 2012 NDAA not only smashes our rights, it actually makes it harder to fight terrorism. This can be a great secondary argument to use with your local government officials if you need a fallback.

This week, the U.S. House passed the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2014. While we don’t have a legal analysis on this yet, we have issued a summary of the amendments as this bill heads to the Senate.
The short version?
The 2014 National Defense Authorization Act has no amendments that will protect you from the 2012 NDAA’s detention provisions. The only amendment that would, the Smith-Gibson Amendment, was shot down 200-226 this summer. Though there are a few that pretend, this bill is just as much “Smoke and Mirrors” as 2013.

Thanks to the efforts of Jason Casella, an Anti-NDAA Resolution will be voted on in a city in Idaho on the same day as Clark County, Nevada’s.
The Michigan legislature passed an Anti-NDAA bill, SB094. This bill does nothing to protect the rights of the people of Michigan, and currently awaits the governor’s signature. It’s one of the “warm and Fuzzy” bills we attempted to change before we moved this fight to the city and county level.
