“UNPRECEDENTED IN AMERICAN HISTORY”

by Robert McCurry, ©2013

In the days of Noah, God sent floods to destroy the world because of excessive sin

(May 27, 2013) — When I began my preaching ministry as a teenager 65 years ago, I soon became spiritually aware, my limited Bible knowledge and worldview notwithstanding, of the gathering storm clouds of God’s pending wrath and judgment on America apart from repentance, revival and obedience to God’s Word. My spiritual growth, Bible training and interest in world history served to enhance this awareness as I grew older and became my burden and urgency to this day.

Things in every arena of life have changed in incredible and mindboggling ways in recent times that were not even imaginable in the not too-too-distant-past. I often express it this way, ‘This is a new day!’ To those familiar with God’s Word, this day should not have taken us unawares, although details of what would take place far exceed what one believed would happen; Biblical truth is not determined by today’s newspaper headlines or the 5:00 o’clock TV news, but by God’s Word.

One need not be a Hebrew or Greek scholar or a graduate theologian to understand the times; a simple reading of God’s Word will suffice; Note: Your eschatological view notwithstanding, the following scriptures are applicable to every age that ignores, defies and disobeys God:

Luke 17: 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

In a recent article I listed some of America’s major problems and crisis; I pointed out that these problems are in reality symptoms of a ROOT CAUSE that I cited as the daily murder of 4,500+ babies — 60 million+ since 1973 — via the premeditated and deliberate act of abortion. I cited this as the ROOT CAUSE of God’s wrath and judgment on America because no other act of wickedness past or present is comparable, equal or surpasses this sin. These murders are unprecedented in American History. To trivialize, minimize or treat abortion as a mere incidental ‘bump in the road’ is itself wicked; the blood of the innocents cries out from the ground, the gutters and the sewers; God is grieved and angry by their murders. Every Christian should be also.

During the nineteenth century, abortion became a public concern in America. In 1869, the General Assembly of the “Old School” Presbyterian Church adopted the following resolution as its official denominational statement:

This assembly regards the destruction by parents of their own offspring, before birth, with abhorrence, as a crime against God and nature…..We also exhort those who have been called to preach the gospel, and all who love purity and the truth, and who would avert the just judgments of Almighty God from the nation, that they be no longer silent, or tolerant of these things, but that they endeavour by all proper means to stay the floods of impurity and cruelty.

In 1871 the American Medical Association and various leading doctors issued a condemnation of abortion for any reason and asked state governments to make abortion a crime.

The Congregationalist churches in New England and the Great Lakes region also engaged in anti-abortion activities. Arthur Cleveland Coxe, Episcopal bishop of the diocese of western New York, publicly supported efforts by American physicians to tighten up the abortion laws. “As to those crimes which I have likened to the sacrifices of Moloch,” wrote the bishop, “I am glad that our physicians are beginning to be preachers.”

There are many ‘causes’ of America’s problems and crisis too numerous to list here; these ‘causes’, their factual historical realty, significance and contribution to America’s problems notwithstanding, can be traced to one root cause — SIN – the transgression of God’s perfect law.

This is a new day; times have changed; Biblical holiness is obsolete; sin is antiquated and if it even exists, is determined by opinion; God’s perfect law as a rule of life is ignored and denied.

In a changing world, God and His Word are unchangeable and will forever remain the same.

Repentance and a commitment of obedience to God’s perfect law in the future is where we must begin to resolve America’s problems and crisis. This must begin in the pulpits and pews of America.

Wake-up, Pastors! Wake-up, Christians!

  1. What is happening in the world today Robert McCurry TRULY DEFIES ALL LOGIC, the only answer that makes any sense of it at all is that Patriots do read the Bible where it clearly shows that GOD AND HIS PEOPLE DEFINITELY WIN; ref Matthew 13:36 to 13:43 about the tares of the field!!! Thanks Robert for your great article. Interesting, in the early 90’s the world was getting about 10 earthquakes a week, now we are getting 10-15 per day, very Biblical, if like me you believe, that we are rapidly nearing the end times… as I do, Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21

  2. I read articles often that stress repentance and a return to God as a cure for America. While this is certainly true, it just ain’t gonna happen. It’s too late. God has sent His servants into the highways and byways to gather in one by one so His table can be full. Those bidden have rejected and there’s no turning back.
