Boston, MA is the largest city in New England and is a major banking center

(Apr. 19, 2013) — Businesses and individuals throughout the country have set up accounts via online technology to assist victims and their families in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon explosions on Monday, April 15.

“One Fund Boston” collected more than $7,000,000 in a 24-hour period.

Memorial funds have been established in the names of the two women who were killed:  Krystle Campbell, 29, of Medford, MA; and Lu Lingzi, 23, a graduate student from China studying at Boston University.  A fund for the family of Martin Richard, an eight-year-old boy who was killed, has also been established.  Martin’s mother and sister were seriously injured from the explosion.

A fund for a newlywed couple whereby the husband and wife each lost a leg has raised $200.000 in its first 24 hours and is now at more than $400,000.

Another charity is the Boston Marathon Relief Fund.

Many victims are facing months or years of rehabilitation and the cost of prosthetics and other medical supports.

Events being held to benefit the victims are listed here.

The family of Sean Collier, the MIT police officer who is believed to have been shot by the two suspects overnight from Thursday to Friday, has asked that donations in their son’s memory be made to The Jimmy Fund, which hopes to find a cure for childhood cancer.  Collier is being remembered and honored here and here.
