“IT’S TIME TO STOP THE LEFT”

(Dec. 28, 2012) — Headline: DEMOCRATS KILL 30 IN SCHOOL AND MALL SHOOTINGS.

Farfetched?  No more so than the knee-jerk reaction among liberals and Democrats, blaming the presence of guns in our society for the atrocities in Portland, Oregon and Newtown, Connecticut.

Given their age, the prevailing political climate in Oregon and Connecticut, and the fact that they obviously suffer from at least a touch of madness, it would be safe to assume that Jacob Tyler Roberts, the Clackamas, Oregon mall shooter, and Adam Lanza, the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooter, were registered Democrats.  Another reason to suspect that they were registered Democrats is that, if either of those young men had been registered Republicans, or members of the National Rifle Association, they would have been immediately identified as such by the mainstream media.  It is always possible to squeeze a bit of truth from the mainstream media by searching for “the dog that didn’t bark.”

But to tie their political affiliation to their horrendous crimes makes at least as much sense as the reaction of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  In a December 16 statement, Bloomberg called on Barack Obama to take the lead in imposing stricter gun-control laws in the U.S.  In an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, he is quoted as saying, “It’s time for the president, I think, to stand up and lead and tell this country what we should do, not go to Congress and say what you guys want to do.  This should be his No. 1 agenda.”

Obama to “take the lead?”  Now there’s a radical suggestion.  Our experience of the past four years tells us that Barack Obama couldn’t lead his way out of a burning one-hole outhouse with a smoke detector and a roadmap.

Bloomberg suggests that, if Obama does not act to impose stricter gun control regulations, an estimated 48,000 Americans will die next year because of illegally possessed guns.  He said, “We kill people in schools.  We kill them in hospitals.  We kill them in religious organizations.  We kill them when they’re young.  We kill them when they’re old.  We’ve just got to stop this.”

Yes, Mr. Mayor, and we kill them with automobiles driven by incompetent drivers as well.  In fact, in calendar year 2011, some 32,370 Americans were killed in automobile-related incidents, many of those deaths caused by incompetent drivers who should never have been given drivers licenses by state officials.  And abortions… which you favor?  The number of deaths by induced abortions has held steady at just over 1.1 million per year since 2000.  In New York State alone, some 120,000 induced abortions were performed in 2009.

He concluded by saying, “There is this myth that the NRA is so powerful.  The public, when you do the polls, they want to stop this carnage, and if 20 kids isn’t enough to convince them, I don’t know what will be.  If Congress were to act, if Congress wasn’t so afraid of the NRA – I think I can show you that they have no reason to be – but if they were to stand up and do what was right for the American public, we’d all be a lot better off,”

It is the typical reaction we’ve come to expect from liberals when, in fact, the root cause of such mass shootings lies closer to the doorstep of liberals and Democrats because of the cheapening and the liberalization of the American culture… which they are largely responsible for… than it does to the reverence for 2^nd Amendment rights among conservatives and Republicans.

But there are other explanations equally as insane.  For example, a report published by Iran’s Press TV blames the Newtown school shooting on the Israelis.  Yep!  You heard that right… the Israelis did it.  The report claims that, “This is exactly what Israel did in Norway; the political party that voted sanctions against Israel was retaliated against by a ‘lone gunman’ who killed 77 children.  This is what Israel always does, they go after the children.  It is what they do in Gaza every day.  It is what was done in Norway.  It is what happened at Sandy Hook.  Nobody buys the ‘lone gunman’ story anymore, not with the Gabby Giffords’ shooting, not with the Aurora ‘Batman’ shooting,’ certainly not with Breivik (the Norwegian shooter), and certainly not in Connecticut.”

Then, on the opposite end of the spectrum, there is the reaction of Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association.  In a press conference on Friday, December 21, LaPierre argued that, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

LaPierre called for a national school security plan, funded by taxpayers, that would put an armed security guard in every one of our 100,000 public schools.  In support of that outlandish idea he said, “Will you at least admit it’s possible that… 26 innocent lives might have been spared that day,” if the shooter had encountered “qualified armed security?”

So where does it all end?  With at least 100,000 armed security guards patrolling our public schools, at least 65,000 TSA employees gumming up air travel, and with armed guards stationed inside each of the 893,200 restaurants in the U.S., we will be well on our way to solving our unemployment problem by turning everyone into security guards.  It is sheer madness.  As my wife suggests, maybe we should all just lie down, curl up in a fetal position, and suck our thumbs.  We’re turning our country into one large prison.

Unfortunately, the American people are just as confused as Bloomberg, LaPierre, and the Iranian Mullahs.  Their opinions are all over the map.

A December 19 Gallup Poll showed that barely 50% of those polled felt that increasing police presence at schools would be very effective; 50% felt that increased spending on mental health screening and treatment would be very effective; and 47% insisted that decreasing the amount of gun violence on TV and in movies and video games would help.

Forty-two percent felt that banning the sale of semi-automatic guns and assault weapons would help, 34% thought it would be a good idea to have least one school official at every school carry a gun; 27% felt that asking news organizations to refuse to publish the names of mass shooters would be effective, and 36% said that banning semi-automatic and assault guns would not be effective.

There are many reasons why we should blame the Sandy Hook school shootings, the Clackamas mall shootings, the Aurora, Colorado theater shootings and the Columbine high school shootings on leftists.  Howard Galganov had it exactly right when he wrote in his blog on December 17:

“It didn’t happen because of the so-called gun culture, or because of the poor security at the school.  It happened because of the modern LEFTIST culture that has removed all semblances of personal responsibility and respect.

“It happened because of the Hollywood and television types who lecture the Conservatives on how people should live, while they make FORTUNES producing absolute FILTH in the movies and on television programs.

“It happened because of reality television shows that demean humanity.  And shows that make people laugh at the pain and humiliation of others.

“It happened because multi-millionaire computer game producers create UGLY digital scenarios that poison young minds with abject and gratuitous violence.

“It happened because the school system doesn’t teach values, and promotes the idea that everything goes.  And that all people are equal regardless of the truth.  And that no one ever fails.

“It happened because LEFTISTS won’t allow concerned and loving parents to discipline their children, or raise their children the way they want to.

“It happened because far too many Liberals spend far too much time and effort ridiculing and attacking people who want to live by the lessons of the Bible and the Torah.

“In truth… this and other horrible acts of violence happen because our society, from our entertainment industry, to schools, to the media, and our government have created the social and cultural foundation that is eating away at our countries like a cancer.”

He concluded by saying, “I want my old country values back… when we stood in school when an adult entered the room.  When we were really disciplined for bad behavior.  When we were measured by our successes and failures.  When not everyone had to waste years of his or her life in college studying basket weaving instead of taking a trade course, or going to work right after finishing high school.  When your mom was a woman and your dad was a man.  And when there weren’t vulgar parades extolling the “virtues” of being gay.

Firmly “pinning the tail on the donkey,” Galganov tells us, “If you want to stop the sickness… IT’S TIME TO STOP THE LEFT.”

John Adams reminded us that the Constitution he helped to write was meant for a moral people, and it was fit to govern none other.  Events of recent years, in which liberals and Democrats have demonstrated a complete lack of respect for constitutional principles and mandates, are symbolic of the truth of Adams’ admonition.  We are no longer a moral people and respect for property rights, for the rule of law, and for constitutional imperatives are the first casualties in our decline.  It’s time that all right-thinking people reaffirm their commitment to what it was that made our country the greatest of all countries of the world.  It’s time to stop the left.
