“EITHER PLAN IS VICTORY”

by Dr. Laurie Roth, ©2012

(Oct. 9, 2012) — My friend and regular weekly guest, crime blogger, author and survivor, Susan Murphy Milano has been facing her biggest battle of stage 4 cancer.    Just today, I called her and visited in depth with her as long as she could before she was too tired to focus and talk any more.  She is in hospice and told me she looks like a holocaust victim of skin and bones as she has fought this cancer every way she could.  She told me she was dying and didn’t know how much time she had but she wanted to thank everyone for their cards, letters, prayers and donations.  She also asked for more donations and prayers to help her pay for the heavy medications to cut through the pain.  These can be received at http://www.conqueringcancer.me/

Susan and I shared together about our years on air, taking on unsolved crimes, talking with victims and family members and even seeing crimes solved and bad guys caught.  We reminisced as girlfriends and colleagues on a mission do.  Susan said although she knew she was dying and close to death, she knew God could heal her and that would be great also.  She was at peace and my eyes were full of tears.

We finally agreed that if God is really in control and loves us, then either plan He might have is victory, going to see Him or staying here with his blessing.  I asked if Susan was afraid or depressed.  She said no.  She has peace and that she believed she was going home soon.   In our 20 minutes on the phone, I found Susan to be her powerful, warm and direct self as usual…just more tired and resolute sounding.

Susan Murphy Milano has told the nation her story and how she survived in ‘Holding my hand through hell’  her book, now out.  I remember her on my show telling her story of being born into a family where her Dad was a beloved Cop who had a hidden life no one but Susan’s family new about.  He would threaten and beat Susan and her Mom.  After many years of terror, with no one believing Susan or her Mom since he was such a popular cop, he murdered her Mom then committed suicide.  It was a miracle Susan wasn’t also murdered and that she survived.

Susan took her crushed and damaged self and began to develop a passion for helping others who had also gone through hell and survived abuse and crime.  Moreover, she was determined to keep people from having to become victims and experience terror and abuse.

Over the last several decades, Susan has spoken at numerous conferences, been on TV, national radio shows like mine, her own  and written bestselling books.  Her brilliance in formulating her ‘evidentiary-abuse-affidavit’  has given multitudes of men and women living in fear, a step by step tool they can use to track all the behavior and assaults in advance as they make a plan to get out of danger.  This affidavit can now be used in a court of law as evidence against the assailant in the dreaded event the victim is killed and couldn’t escape in time.

Susan, from her hospice bed continues to spread power, hope and courage to those facing any kind of hell.  She is at peace with her Lord and she intends to win this battle no matter what the outcome.

I will never forget Susan Murphy Milano who has spent most of her adult life sacrificing for others, saving and inspiring thousands of lives and facing down evil criminals.

May we all find that spirit that Susan continues to model, victory in all things, rising above victimization and facing all things… even death.
