Work Ethic? What Work Ethic?

by One Pissed-off Vietnam Vet

Robert Owen was a Welsh philosopher and primary architect of British socialism, which claimed that the individual was not responsible for his own actions, but rather, that heredity and environment were.

(Mar. 3, 2011) — You’ve heard the joke about city employees changing a light bulb? Like it takes two to hold the ladder, another ten to watch the two hold the ladder, and then they all take a break.. Meanwhile, the union gets involved and they decide that at least one of the employees has to have a pilot’s license, preferably with multi-engine and instrument ratings, someone who has demonstrated in the past that they have avoided vertigo at such astronomical heights as the ceiling height of the average office. Not finding an employee with the proper credentials, the changing of the bulb is contracted out to a private civilian contractor, preferably the brother-in-law of the supervisor of the city employees, who charges the city a fee which would make an odds-maker of a race between a frog and a greyhound envious.

Let’s say you have a roll of steel that weighs 200,000 lbs. Ten tons. You decide to make washing machines. You make a lot of washing machines, but like anything mechanical, they break down. So what? You make the parts to fix it. More parts need to be manufactured to keep the machines going, old machines get refurbished, or maybe they go off to the recycle plant where they again become a washing machine, or a tricycle.

Then again, maybe you decide to make missiles. At first you make a lot of missiles, but, like washing machines, they get used.  Unlike washing machines, you can’t recycle a missile.  Once the missile is used (fired), that’s all, folks. No recycling a used missile. No melting down the old and resurrecting a new.

No matter which country you live in, there is a finite supply of anything, including fresh water.  As a matter of fact, fresh water may very well be the world’s most precious resource. Anyway, there’s a finite supply of anything at any given time, whatever the resource. The moral here, I suppose, is waste not, want not.  Another way to put it would be to say you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Or, if you eat your cake, you won’t have any cake to eat. You can’t have your missile and fire it too, for if you do, you won’t have a missile left to fire.

But we need washing machines and we need missiles. And we need tractors and we need bullets. But do we need a tractor in every garage? Of course not. Do we need a thousand bullets for every human being on the planet? Go figure. Somewhere along the lines of common sense everything became lopsided, so much so, it’s like 20,000 bullets for every human being on the planet. To put it another way, there are enough conventional bombs to kill everyone on earth at least a hundred times. The point is that for every dollar spent on a washing machine, that dollar is recycled, whereas for every dollar spent on a weapon, most of that dollar is gone forever, kaput! Up in smoke.

And that, everyone, is basically how the West won (outspent) Russia to win the Cold War. But that’s not the whole picture. The whole picture encompasses quality (us) versus shoddy workmanship (them). Or, to be more accurate, how capitalism beat socialism. How the work ethic of building better for less versus let’s build whatever may, or may not, work, which is exactly what happened. Go ahead and try to compare a Russian nuclear sub with an American nuke boat. Or a Yugo with a Pinto. Maybe not. So we build junk, too. Thing is, the free market place got rid of the Pinto, yet the Yugo went on year after year.

The free market allowed for some interesting contraptions, without a doubt. Got steel? Let’s build a Slinky. Got  plastic? How about a Hula Hoop? The English manufactured Dinky Toys, and the United States had the Lionel Train. Meanwhile, back in the U.S.S.R., consumer choice, of anything, was very limited. The black market profiteer’s largest markup wasn’t cigarettes; it was American blue jeans.

You are an employee of a company that makes, say, threaded nuts and bolts. You get paid by piece work. For every 100 you make, you get $1.00. If you work your tail off, you make $400 a day. You also beat the acceptable reject rate of 5%, because not only are you fast, pride in your work gets you a reject average of less than 1%. But remember, you’re really working your tail off.

Enter Mr. Socialism. From now on, no matter how hard you work, how many threaded nuts and bolts you produce, and whether you give a hoot about quality, you make $80 a day. What do you think is going to happen? Well, you’re not going to bust your tail anymore, that’s for sure. And as far as quality? Eventually you’re beaten down and you accept the 5% reject rate as acceptable. You’ve lost whatever work ethic you ever had, and so has everyone else in the society.

So what’s the attraction of socialism, then? My father always told me, “If you’re going to do a job, do it right.” No, he wasn’t a socialist.  Seems to me that a socialist wants to take the easy road, let someone else do the work, just sit back and share the wealth. If everyone will be equal that means that everyone will sink down to the level of the laziest and dumbest person on the totem pole, as is the case of the United States Congress. Everyone suffers under socialism, for there is no incentive to improve. One can never let on that they are smarter than their boss, for if they do, they may find themselves facing false charges and living in a Kafka novel, that’s for sure.

And there will be no one to turn to, nowhere to go. Lost in a maze of mediocrity. Most of the population will remain clueless of how things are for real, just as now with “Homeland Security.” Talk about a joke, and we’re living it. The enemy is Islam (creeping socialism?) and what it stands for. Well, what does Islam stand for? Beat your wife and hide the bruises under a burqa. Blame everyone else for your failures except yourself. Keep females prisoners. Hate everyone and never question, ever. Remain meek.

Islam is growing by leaps and bounds. Here in the United States, the ripest recruiting grounds are the prisons. Our prisons are the home of the lost, the violent, the stupid and those who have a real problem with anger management.  They are the ones that never knew their father, most likely, because their father is in the same place, but another state. A minority that condones teenage pregnancies. Anyone second the motion for vasectomies?

Most never had a job. Most will never have a job. Most can’t read, write, or speak English. “I been had a hat” and “How old is her?” I heard from someone who said he graduated from college. Yet they qualify for welfare, food stamps, and all they have to do is nothing. And now America is paying the price of having a generation of stupid people believing that it’s not their fault they are too damn lazy to get a library card. That it’s not their fault that they are too damn lazy to go to night school and study diligently to get ahead, to get a better-paying job.  And it’s not their damn fault that they don’t even know what a work ethic is, what it looks like, and can they get one too?

So these really dumb people get into prison and hear this B.S. about how it’s not their fault they are so messed up; it’s the fault of those who preach The Golden Rule, as if that makes any sense. But they are so lost they’ll blame anyone but themselves about their past condition, their present condition, and their future condition. They are told if they join The Nation of Islam they’ll get a chance to fight back. Fight what? Their reflection in the mirror? What a waste.. A mind going to Islam is a wasted mind.

If the government is going to be handing out money, make them work for it. Picking up litter is just the start. Respect is earned, not given. Have evening classes where people learn to speak, read and write English. Communication is the key and we have the resources to make it work. This country is able and willing to give every legal law-abiding citizen an equal chance at prosperity based on the content of their character. If you want that welfare check, repeat after me: “I Pledge Allegiance To the Flag Of the United States of America, And to the Republic For Which it Stands, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty And Justice For All.”

Your explanation illustrates quite well the curse socialism inflicts on a society.

Have you ever read “The story of the political Little Red Hen”? It too points it out.

This is the real story of the subversion, treason, and tyranny against our Constitution, the American people and our posterity.

Republicans in Congress have been in on this from the beginning helping the DemoRATs to cover & protect the usurper 0bumm0.

Congress deals [enacts] in laws, that’s their branch of government – legislative. Each member of Congress has a staff consisting of many people who know the laws. Each one of them knew from 0bumm0’s book “Dreams From My Father”, what he stated during his campaign, and what was posted on his website “fightthesmears” that he wasn’t qualified to be on the presidential ballot.

As a collective body in Congress on the right side of the political aisle the republicans are spineless cowards appeasing their treasonous DemoRAT friends.

I would suggest that destroying the work ethic is the cornerstone of all things socialistic.Once anyone can be made to lose their pride and sense of accomplishment from the fruits of their labor, then and only then can they be made to become useful idiots or better yet “servants” to the criminal elite. This
criminal elite does everything they can think of to demoralize American citizens into believing there isn’t any way for them to get ahead by either taxation or rules and regulations that make their task so difficult,They finally
succumb to “throwing in the towel” and giving up.This puts the criminal elite,in the drivers seat.If socialism is necessary to protect young children or
the aged who can no longer fend for themselves then I can accept socialism, but if socialism is used as a tool to circumvent a good work ethic, then please count me out.

The republicans were in the same place then as the are now, selling us all down the river as all the other scumbag politicians that has infested our government. It’s a one party system. Neither party has stood up to the usurper. Soon we all may be hearing The Call to Arms!

Again….and where were the republicans all the while this was going on? Why didn’t the republicans stand up and defend America, the U.S. Constitution and the posterity of America? But what they did do is provide aid to the democrats to the installation of a genuine usurper in America’s White House!

They are all around us now … They have infiltrated every part of the four hidden dynasties … “Political, Education, Financial, Religion”. THERE HERE – AND WE MUST DEAL WITH IT – proof: “but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; witness: Matt 13. WAKE-UP AMERICA; don’t just sit on your keisters and be sabotaged and consume by satan, get involved; do what “One Pissed-off Vietnam Vet” is doing; contemplate America’s apocalyptic situation; be prepared to mobilize; write something constructive; warn your friends and neighbours; get re-acquainted to your Guns and Bibles; STAND-UP FOLKS – “THIS IS REALLY IT”, THE TIME IS NOW.
