Trayvon B. Martin was killed by George Zimmerman on February 26, 2012. Although police stated that no probable cause existed to charge Zimmerman, he was charged by a prosecutor with second-degree murder but acquitted on July 13, 2013. However, the U.S. Justice Department has stated that it plans to take up an inquiry into possible “civil rights” charges against Zimmerman.
