John Jay was the first Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court after our nation's founding. It was Jay who urged the Framers to include the term "natural born Citizen" as it pertained to the qualifications for the office of the President and Commander-in-Chief

Dear Senator DeMint,

I hope this gets to you, as I think this is a vitally important issue and you are one of the few people in Congress at least making conservative “noises!”

It seems the current phrase is “Cut, Cap and Balance” in an effort to find some fiscal sanity before our country is completely destroyed by Mr. Obama and his fellow Marxists.

Now this is coming from a Congress (collectively AND individually) who, after repeatedly telling us they would be different, have overspent over the years and with Obama at the throttle have gone on a binge unlike any seen in history!

This is coming from a Congress (again, collectively AND individually) who repeatedly over the past years have tried to alter, overturn and change the original Article II, Section 1, intent of the Framers of the Constitution.  Some of these attempts were through legislation and some through legitimate attempts at amendments, but all were to no avail.  Therefore, Congress decided in their infinite wisdom to just IGNORE the Constitution AND their individual oaths of office, and hiding behind a phony, baloney April 3, 2009 memorandum from the Congressional Research Service’s Jack Maskell which misrepresented the facts and merged native born, natural born and just passing through, to permit Congress to turn a blind eye to Obama’s lack of eligibility.  Thus, in my mind, Congress has been illegally in session ever since!

Now, after years of failing every attempt to rein in spending, you come to us with this “Cut, Cap and Balance” pledge and ask that we TRUST you!

We the People are supposed to trust a Congress that collectively and individually ignores daily the Constitution and their oath to it?  Should this amendment ever be ratified, why should we even consider that you will pay any more attention to it that you do to Article II, Section 1 of the EXISTING Constitution?

Sorry, Senator DeMint, I say CUT up the credit card, LOWER the debt ceiling, CUT tax rates (go to a flat tax) and for once, prove Congress CAN BE TRUSTED!

While Congress might still be “Lucy,” this member of We the People is no longer “Charlie Brown!”
