(May 29, 2025) — On Thursday evening, President Trump announced on TruthSocial he will hold a press conference Friday afternoon with departing Special Government Employee Elon Musk.

“I am having a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office,” Trump wrote. “This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House.”

Musk, who chairs SpaceX, Tesla, X (formerly Twitter) and Neuralink, has been working as a special adviser to Trump and, most famously, a Special Government Employee (SGE) launching “DOGE” (Department of Government Efficiency”), whose purpose is to identify and eliminate government waste, fraud and abuse.

Musk and his DOGE colleagues, many of whom are under 25, have been working without pay.

According to Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz on May 25, DOGE discovered “about $14 billion” in improper payments stemming from individuals registered for Medicaid, the medical program for the disabled, poor and some elderly, enrolled simultaneously in multiple states.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end,” Musk wrote on his X account Wednesday, “I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

Since its launch in January, DOGE posted its progress on X, which waded into the area of election integrity by creating a database of individuals deemed eligible to vote which states can use to verify a voter’s status.

On May 23, DOGE announced it found, and successfully had purged, “~12.3M individuals aged 120+” from the Social Security database who had been receiving checks.

A reported $100,000 in annual savings has also been realized, DOGE announced on May 21, by canceling unnecessary telephone lines.
