(Dec. 23, 2021) — As was widely reported Wednesday, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a Monday press conference opined that the aggressive administration of “booster” shots for COVID-19 will not vanquish the virus, whose latest mutation, Omicron, is quickly sweeping the world just before the Christmas holiday.

“So if it’s going to be used, it’s better to focus on those groups who have risk of severe diseases and death rather than as we see, some countries are using to give boosters to kill children, which is not right,” Tedros was heard to say beginning at 2:41 in a clip from the press conference. “Then the equity issue comes here. Instead of boosting a child in high-income countries, it’s better to vaccinate the elderly in countries where the elders who have not been vaccinated, even the primary vaccines, so the equity issue should also come into play.” [sic]

No outlet appears to have obtained the full footage of the presser, and at this writing, the WHO has not posted it.

On Wednesday evening, The Post & Email contacted the WHO media office with the following question:

Hello, in the following video, did Dr. Tedros mean to say what sounds like, “.. are using to give boosters to kill children, which is not right…”?  (2:41)

Thank you very much.

At 4:11 a.m. EST, we received the following response from the WHO:

Dr Tedros’s intended quote is: “So, if it (the booster) is going to be used, it’s better to focus on those groups who have the risk of severe disease and death, rather than, as we see, some countries are using to give boosters to children, which is not right.”

What occurred on Monday at the WHO press conference during his delivery of the word “children” is that he got stuck on the first syllable “chil” and it came out sounding like “cil/kil.” He then correctly pronounced the same syllable immediately after, with it coming out audibly as “cil-children”. Any other interpretation of this is 100% incorrect.

As you are aware, WHO strongly promotes the use of vaccines to protect people from COVID-19.

  1. President Trump, in a recent interview with Candace Owens, referred to the COVID vaccine as “the greatest achievement of mankind”. Trump then went on to say, “the ones that get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones that don’t take that vaccine”. Trump was vaccinated against COVID-19 shortly before he left office and revealed this past weekend that he has also received his booster shot.

On Tuesday, President Biden praised his predecessor’s vaccine development. “Let me be clear,” the president said. “Thanks to the prior administration and our scientific community, America was one of the first countries to get the vaccine.” Biden also commended his predecessor for receiving the booster shot. Hours later, Trump revealed in an interview with Fox News that he was “very appreciative” and “surprised” by the public praise from Biden. “I’m very appreciative of that — I was surprised to hear it,” Trump said. “I think it was a terrific thing and I think it makes a lot of people happy.” Great to see America coming together.

Nearly 4 billion people worldwide, almost 50% of all people, have been vaccinated and countless lives have been saved. mRNA vaccines are coming soon for cancer and other horrible illnesses, it’s been a miracle.
    Worldwide
    Total doses given 8.81B
    People fully vaccinated 3.77B
    % fully vaccinated 48.3%

With so many vaccinated, it’s unlikely we’ll see lockdowns again thank goodness. My 88-year-old Dad and 82-year-old Mom are grateful, Dad has cancer and Mom is immunocompromised so being vaccinated has been a tremendous relief. Happy holidays and wishing everybody good health!
