“Who has the watch tonight?”
“Jackson.”
“I thought he had it last night.”
“He did. Said he didn’t want to miss anything.”
“I thought it was what’s his name, ‘one life to give to my country’s turn.”
“Hale, Nathan. It was, or is.”
“But Jackson’s not doing it alone, you know.”
“Doing what alone? Keeping watch? What’s the point?”
“The point is that they’re concerned, is the point. Anyway, Danny Boone is up, too.”
“Don’t let him hear you call him ‘Danny,’ if you know what’s good for you. It’s ‘Mr. Boone’ or maybe ‘Mr. Daniel Boone’; understood?”
“Got it. So where are they hanging out at? The reason I asked is because I passed the tomb of the Unknown and no one was there.”
“Now where do you think? At Audie Murphy’s marker; where else? I heard that George and Old Abe would be joining them.”
“Golly, but will the whole gang be there? I guess we might as well join them; what do you think?”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“What’s the big bet tonight?”
“Attorney General Barr will run and hide, that’s what. They say someone asked him when he’s going after Hillary – I think it was Don Jr. – and Barr ran to the nearest corner and started crying.”
“That figures. I haven’t seen any gallows being erected, have you?”
“No, they don’t hang anybody for treason anymore. They don’t hang people these days; they rather charge the taxpayer hundreds of thousands for an execution when all they got to do is go to Home Depot and buy 50’ of nylon rope for, what, $15?”
“These days it seems to me that the purpose of the government is to rip people off. NASA charged $300 for a hammer that you could buy at Ace Hardware for $20.”
“That sounds about right.”
“But you know what the worst part is, besides the fake news?”
“No, what?”
“The Dems not calling for an honest election. I mean, not one word about dead people voting. Come on, man.”
“That’s right; they’re ignoring it as if by keeping quiet it’ll all go away.”
“I’ll tell you what’s going away: our country. Oh, look, there’s Audie talking to Seal Team Six. Should we join them?”
“Why not? Beats turning in our graves.”
