WHEN WILL THE BEATINGS STOP?

by Sharon Rondeau

(Mar. 7, 2016) — The inmate who wrote the following letter, which was received on Monday and describes unwarranted beatings of inmates by correction officers reported previously that he was the victim of a beating at the Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX), after which he was reclassified and moved to another section of the prison.

He received medical treatment for abrasions to his face and was charged with assaulting the correction officer, a charge he denied and appealed after he was convicted.  He reportedly had eyewitnesses, including another correction officer, who vouched for his innocence.

As has been the case with other inmates, he reported that his signature was forged to an appeals form and the conviction upheld.

The same inmate described a sexual assault of a female correction officer who had allegedly supplied the assaulting inmate with various drugs over a period of time.  According to the inmate, the correction officer was fired but the inmate suffered no ill consequences following the incident.  NWCX is reportedly rife with gang members questionably classified as “medium security” instead of “maximum security,” a decision which one retired Tennessee warden said is made to “save money.”

He has now been relocated to the Morgan County Correctional Complex (MCCX) in Wartburg, TN, which he described in his letter as “the worst penitentiary through-out the state of TN.” [sic]
