AND “INVISIBLE OBAMA” TWEETS AWAY…AND GIVES HIMSELF AWAY?

by Sharon Rondeau

(Sep. 5, 2012) — In response to the announcement that Obama’s acceptance speech will be moved to a smaller venue because of “weather” concerns, the community at Twitchy has begun a discussion, and apparently initiated a Twitter hashtag, for “#EmptyStadiumDay.”

One tweeter said, “DNC finale goes indoors to escape tsunami of empty seats.”

Monday was designated “Empty Chair Day,” with citizens placing empty chairs on their front lawns and submitting photos of the best empty chair to the person initiating the campaign, which appears to be Prof. William A. Jacobsen of Cornell Law School.

The Twitter feed for Empty Chair Day appears to have been removed.  The moniker arose from the skit performed at the Republican National Convention last Thursday evening by actor and former mayor of Carmel, CA, Clint Eastwood, with an empty chair signifying Barack Obama.

Following Eastwood’s soliloquy, Obama’s campaign staff or Obama himself tweeted a photo of Obama with his back to the viewer in a chair, presumably at the White House.  In an online interview on Tuesday, Obama’s campaign staffers said that if a tweet did not contain “-bo” indicating that Obama himself sent the message, then one of them was responsible for sending it.  News media have reported that Obama sent the photo of himself in the chair in response to Eastwood’s presentation.  The link at the top of the photo leads to Obama’s campaign website, and the photo is not signed “-bo.”

Obama’s Twitter account contains the identifier “@BarackObama” but is noted to be operated by his “campaign staff.”

Because of the change in venue, many “community credentialed” supporters planning to attend the speech, who could number as many as 50,000, have been offered a conference call instead.  The Democrat Convention is still asserting that “The goal of #DNC2012 is accessibility and inclusivity. Participation of all Americans helps make that a reality.”

A new Twitter identity began tweeting responses to Eastwood before his skit concluded.  He or she now describes himself as “your first invisible President,” also taking swipes at Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan.  On Tuesday, September 4, 2012, “@InvisibleObama” tweeted, “Visible or not, Reince Priebus sounds like a waaaay more foreign name than mine does.”

Reince Priebus is not running for president, thus his foreign name is nnot important.
