(May 28, 2012) — Obama departed early from a golf outing on Saturday afternoon, leaving the press pool which accompanies him in his daily activities unaware of where he was or that he had left the golf course.
On May 26 and 27, there were no public events on Obama’s schedule. It was reported that “The pool does not know first hand when the president left the base, what route he took, or when he arrived at the White House. We were told that he arrived at 5:58 pm and went to the residence.” As of 6:59 p.m. on Saturday evening, there was no apparent update as to Obama’s whereabouts or activity. There had been a 10:00 a.m. call time for members of the press from Bloomberg, Reuters, CNN, The Washington Examiner, and other major media.
One writer has claimed that when playing golf, Obama “tries to keep his golfing out of view, banning news cameras when he can.” An experience White House reporter stated that Saturday’s golf outing was Obama’s 98th such excursion since he took office and that the location of Saturday’s game was a routine one.
In June 2010, Obama was reported to have avoided the press during the G8 Summit in Canada, separating himself by 150 miles. He had also abandoned the press to allegedly attend a soccer game in which one of his daughters was playing, confusing pool reporters, although an AP video was produced of the event. The Huffington Post described Obama as having “taken time out of his schedule” to attend the soccer game.
On May 23, 2012, Obama attended a fundraiser in California at which his appearance was delayed by “long minutes.”
Michelle Obama and her two daughters attended a Beyonce performance on Friday night in New Jersey. It also does not appear that they have been seen in public since then.
Several editorials have been published today about Obama and his policies, but no current news pieces appear to be available. Yahoo images show nothing from today.
Obama had promised that his regime would be “the most transparent” in U.S. history and would “put citizens first.”
