EMERGENCY MEETINGS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY SHOW OBAMACARE SUPPORT DWINDLING

“I will not negotiate…”

(Nov. 14, 2013) — The Hill has reported that House and Senate Democrats are now showing frustration, panic and anger over the implementation of the Obamacare law which has caused 5,000,000 Americans to lose their individual health insurance plans over the last six weeks.

The website intended to be a portal for insurance applicants in states which did not set up their own exchanges launched on October 1, but in testimony to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, admitted that testing had not been completed and coordinated among them.  None took responsibility for the many technical difficulties which still persist.

There were six main contractors involved in the setup of Healthcare. gov, all of which received multiple millions of taxpayer dollars to perform the work by no-bid contracts.  Amidst growing consumer frustration over the glitches and lack of security, on October 21, the regime called the website “a work in progress.”

The Obama regime had pledged to “fix” the website by November 30 but is now walking back on any guarantee that it will be functioning smoothly by that date.

On Wednesday, the Associated Press reported that approximately 106,000 people in total had enrolled in insurance plans, including those in state-run exchanges, which were launched in 16 states and the District of Columbia.

Some Democrats have indicated support for a bill sponsored by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) allowing canceled policies to be reinstated through the end of 2014.  The measure which will be voted on by the House on Friday.  Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu, who is running for re-election next year, has also sponsored legislation that reportedly would “force insurance companies to allow people to keep health plans they like, even if they fail to meet ObamaCare’s strict standard.”  The Washington Examiner reports that Landrieu’s bill would “allow” people to keep individual plans which have recently been canceled “indefinitely.”

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced an “emergency Obamacare meeting” with White House staff and Senate Democrats for Thursday.  Republicans are not invited.  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell described the Democrats’ recent meeting as “a stampede away from Obamacare.”

Also on Wednesday, House Democrats had their own “private meeting” with “White House officials” fraught with frustration over Obama’s broken promise that “If you like your health plan, you will keep it.  No one is going to be able to take it away from you” as well as continued website problems.

The Hill quoted a Democrat House aide as having “warned that if the administration doesn’t provide a legislative fix by Friday, many members will ‘go crazy.’”

Prior to the October 1 attempted rollout, both Democrats and Republicans knew that Obamacare was troubled, as evidenced by statements made by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) and Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) describing the bill as “a train wreck.”

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) described the Democrats as being in a “near panic” over the disastrous launch of the law passed in 2010 without a single Republican vote. “The Democrats own this. They made a mistake at the very beginning because there was no bipartisan support for Obamacare. Every Republican voted against it. Every Democrat voted for it. So they own it,”Cornyn told radio host Steve Malzberg.

Despite Obama’s public promise that people could keep insurance plans they liked under the law, approximately 5,000,000 have been canceled, according to Fox News on Thursday.  It is now widely speculated that Obama personally knew that millions of plans would be canceled as a result of Obamacare.

On September 20, in appropriations negotiations, House Republicans voted to fund the government but not Obamacare.  Reid rejected the proposal as well as a subsequent bill to delay the implementation of the individual mandate for a year.  Obama had said he would not negotiate on any points regarding his “signature” health care bill which many claim is unconstitutional despite the U.S. Supreme Court ruling which stated that the legislation was within the bounds of the Constitution if considered a tax.

In late September, Obama had refused to consider the House’s proposals over Obamacare and the debt ceiling, for which he ultimately received an unlimited raise until January, when appropriations deliberations must again take place.

  1. The Democrats are all so upset that their “baby” is causing folks to lose their health care … oh, boo hoo … like they really care.
If they really gave a rat’s butt, maybe they would have read it first.
And the Republicans are no better – they didn’t read it either. What has our government come to that they’ll pass legislation they know nothing about? And then they try to close the barn door after the horse already got loose. Let’s rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic, as the band plays on.
