Dr. Corsi: Arpaio Prosecuted for Political Reasons, Obama Birth Certificate Investigation

“A REVENGE PROSECUTION”

(Aug. 15, 2017) — In an interview with Infowars’ Owen Shroyer hosting for Alex Jones, Infowars Washington, DC bureau chief Dr. Jerome Corsi said that former Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joseph Arpaio was prosecuted by the U.S. Justice Department for political differences by the Obama regime.

Corsi also said that he believes Arpaio’s five-year investigation into the long-form birth certificate image posted at whitehouse.gov was an issue leading to the DOJ’s decision to successfully prosecute the six-term, 85-year-old former sheriff for misdemeanor criminal contempt arising from a 2007 civil case.

Over the last several months, Corsi has aggressively reported on the scheduled Arpaio trial, including a letter written by Arpaio’s attorneys on June 22 directed to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions contending that Arpaio was charged under an incorrect statute, among other alleged irregularities with the case.

There was no response from Sessions or the DOJ, and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene by responding to Arpaio’s request for a jury, rather than a bench, trial.

Presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Susan R. Bolton, the trial began on June 26 and ran for five days.  On July 31, Bolton declared Arpaio guilty of misdemeanor criminal contempt of court, which could carry a six-month jail term.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 5.

Corsi contended that the case was “a revenge prosecution” and “a witch hunt.”  “Tom Perez was behind this prosecution,” Corsi said of the current DNC Chairman who was an attorney in the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division at the time Arpaio was charged.

Recapping the civil case, Corsi explained that Arpaio was told to stop his immigration patrols by a federal judge as a result of the Obama regime’s desire not to enforce federal immigration laws.  Arpaio had developed a reputation for strict enforcement of the law and aggressive apprehension of illegal aliens in Maricopa County.

Arpaio lost re-election to what would have been his seventh term last November.

In August 2011, through one of his volunteer posses, Arpaio launched a probe into the whitehouse.gov image purported to represent Barack Hussein Obama’s “long-form” birth certificate which was found by investigators to be a “computer-generated forgery.”

Details were provided at three separate press conferences between March 1, 2012 and December 15, 2016 supporting the conclusions, but neither the FBI nor Congress would investigate.  Rather, for his efforts, Arpaio received enormous ridicule, skepticism and scorn from the mainstream media and other detractors.

On August 10, Corsi related an interview with Arpaio in which the former sheriff reportedly asked, “Why is Barack Obama is still running the Trump Justice Department?” claiming that “Obama holdovers” carried out his prosecution.

Corsi had reported that attempts to convey information to Trump on the Arpaio case were unsuccessful and that Trump remained unaware of the trial or its outcome until very recently.  “Clearly, we have the attention of the White House, and it’s now being reported by the mainstream media,” he told Shroyer, referring to an article published by Fox News’s Gregg Jarrett on Monday stating that President Trump is considering pardoning Arpaio in the near future.

Corsi elaborated, stating that the pardon could be issued between now and Trump’s planned trip to Arizona on August 22.

As The Post & Email reported earlier on Tuesday, Arpaio’s attorneys have filed motions asking that Arpaio be granted a new trial with a jury or that his conviction be vacated.

Arpaio endorsed Trump’s presidential candidacy in January 2016.  In an ironic twist, both men share the same birthday, June 14.

Before the birth certificate image was posted by the White House on April 27, 2011, Trump raised questions about Obama’s eligibility given that credible reports had been published over the years stating that Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia, not Hawaii, as Obama claimed.  Trump has also received unending ridicule as the “leader of the ‘birthers.'”

At the end of the interview, Corsi invoked the name of “Roger Stone,” a longtime Republican/Libertarian political operative who has served as an informal adviser to Trump at different times and is a frequent Infowars guest.
