(Jul. 17, 2017) — Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Police Department is praising a valued member of the force who rescued a missing child. Officer Ryan Mullenax led by his partner Zeus, a proud member of the Bridgeport Police K9 Unit, was able to locate a missing 9-year-old special needs child who had wandered away from his home. Zeus was provided an article of clothing the boy had worn earlier in the day, he smelled the clothing, picked up the child’s scent, then put his training to work to track the missing boy.
On Sunday evening at approximately 9:00 p.m. on July 9th Bridgeport Police Department was dispatched to a family home on Catherine Street when the mother of a 9-year-old special needs boy realized that her son had walked out the back door and was not in sight. BPD responded to the call and immediately radioed for the K9 team. At 9:42 p.m. Zeus and Officer Mullenax began the track from Catherine Street down Harral Avenue into the Nanny Goat Park. They then traveled back to George Street where the K9 unit located the missing child. Medical inspection of the child revealed that he was healthy and uninjured. Mother and child were immediately reunited.
Chief Armando Perez stated, “This child would not have been found if not for the efforts of K9 Officer Mullenax and K9 Zeus. This is an example of the great work that our officers do on a daily basis. Incidents like this one often go unnoticed but they are an integral part of our team and all we do to serve our community.”
