TRUMP PREDICTED “DISAPPOINTED” MEDIA

by Sharon Rondeau

(Jun. 10, 2017) — At approximately 6:20 p.m. EDT, Rebel Media’s Jack Posobiec tweeted that a White House official told him that recordings of former FBI Director James Comey to which President Donald Trump alluded on May 12 “do exist, as well as tapes of many others.”

Posobiec, a Trump supporter, is a U.S. Navy veteran and recently-credentialed White House Press Corps journalist.

On May 12, Trump suggested in a tweet that there are “tapes” of his conversations with Comey prior to Comey’s abrupt and unexpected termination on May 9.

On the same day as Trump’s tweet, Posobiec himself tweeted, “FBI source tells me Comey dropped the Susan Rice unmasking investigation bc it would have implicated himself. Developing.”

When asked on Friday by ABC News’s Jonathan Karl whether or not the recordings exist, Trump chose not to answer Karl’s question, “And you seem to be hinting that there are recordings of those conversations.”  Instead, Trump responded with “I’m not hinting anything. I’ll tell you about it over a very short period of time.”

After Karl continued his line of questioning, Trump said, “Oh, you’re going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer. Don’t worry.”

Thus far, the media has accepted Comey’s version of events and even sought to legally clear his release of a number of alleged “memos” Comey reportedly wrote after his meetings with Trump.  In a written summary of Comey’s meetings with Trump released prior to Thursday’s hearing, Comey said that his encounters with Trump made him uneasy in ways in which the two previous presidents under whom he had served in different capacities had not, prompting him to summarize them in the event that a challenge arose later.

Shortly before Posobiec’s tweet of a “scoop” regarding the alleged Trump/Comey tapes appeared, he tweeted, “I’m told Comey did not keep his memos on FBI systems as he testified, he dictated to a deputy at FBI so they wouldnt be in his office” [sic].

That tweet was followed by “If true, his entire ‘written testimony’ and story about FBI laptop are fabricated to hide his tracks”.  The “written testimony” likely refers to Comey’s seven-page prepared commentary referenced above.

On Saturday it was reported that the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence asked Comey and White House Counsel Donald McGahn to provide “evidence,” including Comey’s memos and any recordings which might exist, with a June 23 deadline.

The Senate Judiciary Committee also requested all Comey memos in the possession of Daniel Richman, the Columbia Law professor who Comey testified he provided at least one memo with the intent of leaking it to The New York Times.

Richman is reportedly complying with that request.

At 8:08 p.m EDT, House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz told Fox News host Jesse Watters that he spoke with Comey prior to Thursday’s testimony and that the former FBI director “wouldn’t tell him” where the alleged memos are currently located.
