“RE-DO” TO BE DONE SATURDAY

by Sharon Rondeau

pe-logo(Dec. 17, 2016) — At approximately 6:50 PM EST on Friday, The Post & Email’s editor found that the website was inaccessible and submitted a support ticket to its hosting company.

Responding promptly, a technician said that they were aware that the server was down and were working to remedy the issue.

Two hours later, the website was still inaccessible, and again, two hours after that.  We were then told that a “catastrophic failure” of both the main server and a backup server occurred simultaneously.

On Saturday morning, we received a note from the web host that the website has been restored on a new server.  In making the restoration, the company worked from the latest full backup of the site, which had been done early on Friday morning. Therefore, all work published after that time has been lost.  Therefore, anyone seeking to find an article with keywords published on Friday will find a reference on the Internet but upon clicking, an error message such as “Page not found” will appear.

The Post & Email has been told that foul play is not suspected at this time.

In some instances, your editor downloads and saves submissions before publication, while in other cases editorials are copied and pasted without an off-line copy being saved. For anyone whose work was published after 8:00 AM EST on Friday, please resubmit it for reposting with today’s date.

In order to avoid the same problem in the future, we have been urged to purchase an extra security feature which will take snapshots of the site throughout the day in addition to the full backups which are done every 24 hours.
