CAN GOOD COME OUT OF EVIL?

by Sharon Rondeau

(Dec. 21, 2014) — Following the brutal murder of two NYPD police officers on Saturday afternoon by a lone gunman apparently angry over the death of Eric Garner, several citizens are calling for rallies to show national support for law enforcement.

One, Dr. Carol Swain, tweeted on Sunday morning, “We need to organize a local rally in support of police officers killed and wounded around the country.  Swain is a Vanderbilt University professor in political science and law.  She is author of several books, including “Be the People: A Call to Reclaim America’s Faith and Promise,” and hosts a weekly television show carried on a local NBC station entitled, “Be the People.”

The Post & Email responded to Swain and two others with a link to the website of entrepreneur and Breaking News Journal reporter Nohl Rosen, who held a pro-law enforcement rally last weekend in Phoenix, AZ and has scheduled another in Scottsdale, AZ for January 17.  Prior to the murders committed on Saturday in New York, Rosen posted on his website, “Rosen’s pro law enforcement stand has encouraged someone else to put together a rally in Houston which is happening this weekend in that city.”

On the Facebook page he launched to explain the purpose of his cause, “Rally for L.E.,” Rosen wrote that “Rally For L.E. is a nationwide movement which started in Phoenix to show support for our men and women in law enforcement.”

In response to Saturday’s slayings, Rally for L.E. wrote:

If anyone is interested in starting chapters for Rally For L.E. in other cities please feel free to PM me. This is the movement that needs to happen. We need to have pro law enforcement rallies across the country so the nation can see that we support our police officers and their families. What happened in New York City was a terrible tragedy and my condolences go out to their families.

During a recent interview with BET, White House occupant Barack Hussein Obama claimed that “racism” toward “blacks and Latinos” has been a “systemic problem.”  In an interview with People Magazine, the Obamas said that they have both been treated like hired “help” despite their privileged and extravagant lifestyle since entering the White House and their attendance at Ivy League universities and law school.

The officers killed on Saturday were both “minorities.”  One was newly married, and the other has a wife and 13-year-old son.  Their killer was black.

On Friday, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio reportedly attended a meeting of protesters against law enforcement, then “dashed off to an NYPD promotion ceremony, where he unabashedly praised cops for how they’ve handled the recent protests.”

Last weekend, a group of protesters in New York City decrying the decision by a grand jury not to indict the officer involved in the Garner “chokehold” case appears to have called for “dead cops” as they marched down the street.

A Twitter commenter on the hashtag #CopsLivesMatter wrote on Sunday, “NYPD officers died because of color. Blue.”

When cops used to “walk a beat”, every kid in the neighborhood knew a cop was his best friend and one you could always turn to for help, even if it was just tying your shoe.
