CAN MANKIND SURVIVE ITS OWN DESTRUCTION?

Plato referred to the island of Atlantis as “larger than Libya and Asia together” and as “a confederation of kings, of great and marvelous power, which held sway over all the island, and over many other islands also and parts of the continent.”

(Sep. 29, 2013) — Did you ever notice that, no matter what size the crowd, there’s always one who “just doesn’t get it?” Sometimes it’s rather amusing, such as watching someone trying to shove an over-stuffed backpack into an overhead bin; at other times it’s not so funny, as that rocket test in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which very likely could have been the spark that set off World War III. Not funny at all.

The current state of humans on this planet is the result of errors, and what makes it all so amazing is that we’re still around, that we haven’t put ourselves out of business through the spread of viruses or just plain throttling each other.

Addressing the virus thing, there are some really scary little critters out there. Picture your human body as a tree and think of the enemies of your body as a vine that, after it strangles you, also dies. Nuts. What possible benefit does the vine get by killing the host? Well, it gets to send its seed to other unfortunate victims, that’s what. In the Amazon jungle butterflies may spread the germs; in the jungle of Chicago an unfaithful spouse may spread the destruction.

I once had a very good friend while in the military. One day he complained of discomfort so he went to the medic and the next thing, the very next day, he was gone, completely removed. It took me a good year to pry the information out of the medic what the deal was. It turned out he had a venereal disease that no known medicine could cure. So, a word to the wise: there is, indeed, wisdom to be found in the Ten Commandments.

But even if your spouse is faithful, you’re still not out of the woods. Ebola and similar horrors are spread by the wind, airborne killers that may not survive long after leaving their host through a sneeze or cough, but long enough to do you in. Look at the influenza pandemic that ended World War I. Remember the fleas on the rats spreading the Black Death. Contemplate the American Indian dying by the Pox.

And then to make matters worse, and we do, we fight one another. Forget the next giant rock from outer space doing us in, or Yellowstone Park erupting, or any other natural unfortunate incident. We don’t need help to make our lives miserable, for we have the knowledge and the expertise to do it all ourselves. We humans have acquired the knowledge of the ages, only to have it destroyed by ignorance.

The library of Atlantis must have been remarkable, but it was, according to Plato, destroyed by a volcano. The library of Alexandria was said to be an even greater depository of knowledge, only to be destroyed by the very same ignorance that was responsible for planes, loaded with just everyday people like you and me, flown into buildings or nose-dived into the ground.

And therein lies the downfall of civilization in the 21st century: a political philosophy, a cancerous world view that leaves no dialog for differences of thought, of opinion, of descent, growth, exploration, new thought patterns yet to be discovered, once again discovering lost knowledge.

It has been reported in anthropological journals that there once was a South American tribe that had a birth control concoction that, once drunk, worked forever, yet they also had an antidote if the woman desired pregnancy.  After delivery, she could then have another drink of the prevention.

Yes, there are exciting and new discoveries waiting around the corner, but not with Islam as the driving force that prohibits women (half the population’s brainpower) from achieving vanguard positions in every conceivable endeavor.

Indiscriminate murders are committed (Ft. Hood), and for what? Murdering the future discoverer of the common cold and/or the first human to set forth on the planet Mars? Each of us has a contribution to make for the continuing existence of our race, but if you support Islam, you’re no better than those who flew the planes into the Twin Towers.
