EMBATTLED POLICE CHIEF PREDICTS OWN DISMISSAL

by Sharon Rondeau

The borough of Gilberton is located in the middle of the eastern third of Pennsylvania in Schuylkill County

(Jul. 29, 2013) — A controversial set of videos produced by Gilberton, PA Police Chief Mark Kessler may leave the borough without a police chief, at least temporarily.

On Thursday, UPI reported that Kessler “said he expects to lose his job” as a result of the videos, which are laden with profanity, insults and the firing of what appears to be an assault rifle at various targets while Kessler affirms his Second Amendment rights.

The Post & Email has attempted to contact Gilberton Mayor Mary Lou Hannon on two occasions with information not yet made public pertaining to Kessler without result.

Kessler went on vacation early in July and reportedly again last week.

To date, Hannon has not indicated that she will be taking disciplinary action against Kessler.

In January, Kessler submitted a proposed ordinance which was approved by the borough council to reject any new federal legislation which might be passed as perceived to limit provisions of the Second Amendment, which gives Americans the right to keep and bear arms for self-protection and other purposes.

Kessler reportedly has 16 years in the area of law enforcement.  He hosts a weekly radio show called “Breaking All the Rules,” now on the Spreaker platform.  Recent guests have been Attys. Joshua Prince and Orly Taitz.

A meeting to be held last Thursday with Kessler to discuss the complaints generated by the videos was postponed until Wednesday, July 31.  Kessler believes that his speech is protected by the First Amendment.
