Informed readers will recall the traditional penalty for one who commits an act of treason against his own nation. On that basis, the JCS will have lots of company as they await their… er… “punishment” at the end of a hangman’s rope. All humor aside, the JCS members know, as you do, Mr. Charlton, that no trials for treason await them, no date with the guillotine or a firing squad. We don’t do those sorts of things in the United States anymore, and haven’t in many years. We lack the courage and moral fiber to do what must be done to restore our republic. Thus, we give tacit permission for our leaders to disobey us – for they know that their transgressions will not be punished. In fact, they may well be rewarded. We the people will get nowhere as long as we pretend that appeasing those who bully us will have any worthwhile effect. That’s the dilemma we’re up against. Sometimes, strong medicine is required, and it appears that we have lost the stomach for administering it.
